SS 202 tube is an austenitic chromium-manganese-nickel stainless steel product manufactured by Siddhgiri Overseas as a cost-effective alternative to SS 304, using manganese and nitrogen to offset a portion of the nickel content while keeping tensile strength, surface appearance, and fabrication behaviour close to standard austenitic stainless. Manufactured since 1962 at our Mumbai facility, SS 202 tube is supplied in seamless and welded construction across round, square, and rectangular profiles, in outside diameters from ½" NB up to 24" NB and wall thicknesses from 0.5mm to 8mm, with standard 6-metre lengths and custom sizing available. Finishes range from mill and matte through brushed, satin, bright polish, and mirror polish. It is best suited to indoor, dry, and moderately corrosive environments — architectural, decorative, and general fabrication work — rather than marine or aggressive chemical exposure. SS 202 tube is a hollow section produced from grade 202 austenitic stainless steel, a chromium-nickel-manganese alloy in which manganese and nitrogen partially substitute for nickel. This keeps the material within the austenitic family — non-magnetic in its annealed state, good ductility, good weldability — while bringing the nickel requirement down compared to SS 304, which is what makes SS 202 a genuinely lower-cost option without abandoning the mechanical performance fabricators expect from stainless tube.

Chromium in this range provides the oxidation and corrosion resistance common to stainless steels. The reduced nickel content is offset by manganese, which is the key cost-saving substitution in the grade, while nitrogen is added as a deliberate strengthening element that also improves resistance to surface denting and scratching.

Production begins with quality-checked grade 202 stainless steel coil or billet, which is formed into tubular sections through precision rolling and, for welded tube, joined and finished to a smooth weld line. Cold drawing and sizing follow to tighten dimensional tolerances, improve wall-thickness uniformity, and refine mechanical properties, after which the tube is finished to mirror, bright polish, satin, matte, brushed, or mill surface as required.
